Sacramento Police Department officers arrested a 51-year-old Sacramento man one week after a fatal stabbing in the North City Farms neighborhood.

Police arrested Ricardo Barraza Jr. on Thursday evening and booked him into the Sacramento County Main Jail on suspicion of murder, according to a Friday news release from the Sacramento Police Department. The news release did not list the specific charges but jail records show Barraza Jr. also was arrested on an outstanding felony warrant in a 2024 robbery case.
Police confirmed that Barraza was the cousin of the victim, 49-year-old Reynaldo Barraza, who was found stabbed in the 2800 block of Atlas Avenue near Franklin Boulevard about 10:30 p.m. June 25.
Reynaldo Barraza had been stabbed at least once and died after being taken to a hospital.

The news release credited patrol officers, crime scene investigators and detectives with Ricardo Barraza’s arrest.
Reynaldo Barraza’s death was the 17th homicide in the city of Sacramento this year. It was the city’s third homicide of June.
