Sacramento weekend news: Tower Bridge dinner recap, K-9 police chase and more

From a late-night police chase that ended with a K-9 arrest to a new Vietnamese restaurant opening downtown, Sacramento saw plenty of activity this past weekend. Here’s a quick rundown of the local stories readers might have missed.

• A Sacramento County sheriff’s K-9 helped apprehend a suspect after a multi-agency pursuit that began around 12:45 a.m. Saturday near Seventh and J streets and ended near Sutterville Road and 24th Street about 35 minutes later. The chase stretched into Yolo County before looping back, with the driver traveling on Interstate 5, Interstate 80 and Highway 99 before Sacramento police deployed spike strips near Freeport Boulevard and Sutterville Road.

• The annual Tower Bridge Dinner returned this weekend with a lineup of local chefs serving appetizers and desserts alongside the main courses, including a wood-roasted pear bruschetta from Aiona’s Lee Hinton and stuffed cucumber cups with hearts of palm ceviche from Nina Curtis of Plant’ish & Co.

• Downtown Sacramento has a new dining option: K St. Kitchen & Bar, a northern Vietnamese restaurant, has opened at 732 K St. in the space formerly occupied by Koja Kitchen, which closed abruptly on July 2. The new restaurant’s menu features chicken pho, a shrimp and crab tomato noodle bowl and a Bun Cha Hanoi platter, and is open Monday through Saturday from 11 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.

• A bill setting a 10 mph speed limit for bikes and e-bikes on sidewalks starting Jan. 1, 2027, has landed on Gov. Gavin Newsom’s desk after passing the Legislature without a recorded “no” vote. Newsom has until the end of September to act. Assembly Bill 2346 would also require e-bike sellers to provide written disclosures about classification, speed and helmet rules, with fines of up to $500 for a first violation and $1,000 for repeat offenders.
