Pangaea Bier Cafe, the longtime favorite Curtis Park beer hall and burger join that lost its lease earlier this year, has announced its return in spring 2027, the restaurant announced on its social media.

The restaurant will be going into a new Heller Pacific development downtown called The Diggs, located across from the CalPers building at 3rd and R Streets. Formerly Thomson Diggs Hardware, transformed into 140 loft-style residences with “arts-forward commercial space designed for makers, coffee mornings, and cocktail evenings,” according to the project’s website.
According to owner Rob Archie, the revamped Pangaea will take the concept to a new level, including a much expanded space.
“It’s an emotional time picking a new home for your baby, but I love this project, man. It’s a beautiful space, 4,000 square foot space inside. We have almost a 7,000 square foot patio, It’s just going to be a lot of fun, a lot of place for community to get together,” he said.
Going beyond Pangaea’s roots as a tap house, the space will actually have the capacity to make its own brew.
“We’re going to be doing some fun little projects, passion projects. There’ll be room to brew our own (beer),” he said.

While affiliated with Urban Roots, Pangaea will have its own distinct branded beer. Archie says they plan to do collaborations with some of their favorite breweries around the country.
As for the food, corporate chef Greg Desmangles says it all starts with the burger, but doesn’t stop there.
“We’re looking at housemade sausages, steaks, more robust dinner options,” he said.
Rob Archie opened Pangaea in 2008. He later went on to partner with Peter Hoey to launch Urban Roots Brewing & Smokehouse, which became a hospitality empire encompassing fried chicken concept BAWK!, adjacent speakeasy The Roost, Mexican restaurant Cerveceria at the Shack and most recently the full-service Good Neighbor in Ice Blocks.
