The El Dorado Hills Community Services District is taking public comment on its recent study on the environmental effects of becoming a city.

Earlier this month, the district’s board of directors was presented with the study, which showed there would be no significant environmental implications if the eastern suburb would incorporate.
Those interested can review the study in its entirety at edhcsd.org/cityhood. Interested parties can also submit written comments to [email protected] or mail comments addressed to the general manger to 1021 Harvard Way, El Dorado Hills.
Public comment ends at 5 p.m. Aug. 17, according to the community services district.
El Dorado Hills’ study did not consider future projects, such as a city hall, because study results cannot be based on hypothetical scenarios to be determined by a future governing body. Those projects will face individual studies when proposed.

The last four incorporations in California had a similar environmental study result as El Dorado Hills, according to previous Sacramento Bee reporting.
Becoming a city could give local control to topics, such as land use, that are determined by El Dorado County.
Land use has been a contentious topic in El Dorado Hills.
Three residents recently appealed a 10-home Serrano development for concerns about park available and traffic safety. Additionally, the county is debating a proposed Costco development in the eastern suburb, sparking discussion on if tax revenue from the development should be set aside to help nearby roads. Increased traffic from the proposed Costco could cause accelerated roadway deterioration.
There are still several hurdles to jump before El Dorado Hills would become a city, including voter approval and a comprehensive financial analysis.
