Former ESPN star Skip Bayless thinks that U.S. lawmakers could be causing a problem with their letter to the WNBA about treatment of Caitlin Clark.

Republican lawmakers sent a letter to the WNBA, regarding the treatment of Clark, who was on the receiving end of some tough fouls by Phoenix Mercury veteran forward Ayssa Thomas earlier this season.
The letter, led by U.S. Rep. August Pfluger, the chairman of the Republican Study Committee, was co-signed by a dozen members of Congress.
“Caitlin Clark is transforming women’s sports,” the letter begins. “She has inspired a new generation of young girls to participate in athletics and has become one of the most influential figures in the history of women’s basketball.”
“She is also the face of your league,” the letter adds. “Clark has significantly increased fan interest, driven record television ratings, and attracted new corporate sponsors for the WNBA.”
The lawmakers are calling for the WNBA to do better.
“Unfortunately, what they too often witness is not simply aggressive competition, but repeated acts of unnecessary physical hostility and violence,” the lawmakers wrote.
“Clark has been hip-checked, poked in the eye, and struck in the throat during games,” the letter stated. “These incidents go far beyond routine physical play, yet the WNBA and its officiating have too often failed to address these unacceptable incidents and hold players accountable.”

Bayless thinks it could have a negative impact on the WNBA
Bayless believes that if the U.S. Government gets involved in the WNBA, it will “antagonize and infuriate” Clark’s opponents further.
“I read that 11 Republican lawmakers sent a letter to the commissioner of the WNBA, which the commissioner said she didn’t get … The letter demanding that the league ‘take accountability for multiple attacks versus Caitlin Clark, the face of your league’, said the letter.
“The letter went on to talk about unnecessary physical … violence aimed at Caitlin Clark.”
Bayless added: “I’ve just never in my lengthy career seen anything like what’s happening to Caitlin Clark. She has done nothing wrong. All the letters in the world from all the Republican lawmakers are not going to fix this situation for her. They’re only going to make it harder and harder.”
Clark and the Fever, meanwhile, have bigger things to worry about, as they push toward the playoffs.
