Top-ranked Folsom defeated Cal-Hi Sports state-ranked No. 4 Mission Viejo, 35-21 on Friday at Prairie City Stadium, exacting a measure of sweet revenge. Ranked ninth in the state coming in, Folsom defeated the powerhouse Diablos of Orange County to avenge the program’s lone setback of 2025.
At about the same time in El Dorado Hills, Bee No. 2-ranked Oak Ridge had state-ranked No. 10 Central East on the ropes, the same Fresno heavyweight that routed Bee No. 3 Grant, 42-12, in an opener. Central East held off Oak Ridge’s last charge inside its 10 to win 20-14.
No. 3 Grant, meanwhile, bounced back to beat Cathedral of Los Angeles, 21-7, doing so on their new home turf.
The rest of the Sierra Foothill League? It was nearly another 6-0 week for the top league in Northern California. Del Oro, Granite Bay, Rocklin and Whitney were all winners on Friday. The SFL is a combined 13-1 this season.

Update: The Bulldogs, who started slow in a season opener before beating Cardinal Newman of Santa Rosa in overtime, came out hot Friday against Mission Viejo. QB Brody Rudnicki rushed for 123 yards on 25 carries and three touchdowns, and he passed for 244 yards and hit Jaden Angel for two scores. Running backs Bronson Bambino and Osias Bolton played well, and CJ Wallace had a big interception a week after igniting his team with a 99-yard kickoff return score.
2. Oak Ridge (1-1)
Last week: Lost to Central East-Fresno, 20-14
This week: at Crean Lutheran-Irvine
Update: The Trojans have shown plenty so far, using a spirited late rally to win in Texas in their season opener and nearly toppling a defending CIF State champion on Friday after trailing 14-0 at the half. The D is led in part by linebackers Braydon Molloy, Dylan Esten, Ethan Quan and Justen Womack and linemen Nick Hunt, Blake Meggers, Roman McFarland and Bret Roberts. Crean Lutheran offers another stout challenge at state-ranked 14th.
3. Grant (1-1)
Last week: Beat Cathedral-Los Angeles, 21-7
This week: at Lincoln-Stockton
Update: The Pacers ushered in their new field and sparkling track and press box with a strong bounce-back effort, thanks to a defense headed by LB Julian Bruno. QB Blake Nycum was steady as always, and RBs Jayson Williams, Tyson Griffin and shifty and quick freshman A’ron Richardson provide tremendous depth.
4. Del Oro (2-0)
Last week: Beat Saint Francis-Mountain View, 19-17
This week: at Foothill-Palo Cedro
Update: The Golden Eagles didn’t just hang with the 17-time Central Coast Section Lancers of Santa Clara County, they won with grit and a late rally. It was punctuated by a 25-yard field goal by Malik Harris, who booted four field goals. Chase Carmazzi had a 66-yard punt return touchdown, and the defense was nails.
5. Granite Bay (2-0)
Last week: Beat Cosumnes Oaks, 55-21
This week: Bye
Update: Dominic Cattolico was sharp, completing 16 of 22 passes for 214 yards and four touchdowns, two to freshman Trey Johnson. Gabe Smyth ran for 129 yards and two scores and had 177 yards of total offense, and the Grizzlies earned their bye week.
6. Jesuit (2-0)
Last week: Beat Rio Americano, 40-7
This week: vs. Chico
Update: Jeremiah Brannon passed for 170 yards and two scores, and he rushed for 93 and a TD with backfield mate Kwanna Smith scooting for 95 yards and two TDs. Big Red had 13 quarterback hurries and three sacks, two by Heath Lockhart.

This week: vs. Pleasant Valley-Chico
Update: A week after firing three touchdowns in his varsity starting debut, Parker Lively tossed three more, including hitting Ryder Halbert with a terrific 42-yard effort to set up a touchdown. The defense under coordinator Brandon Bochi forced five turnovers, including two fumbles by Cameron Taylor.
8. Woodcreek (1-0)

This week: vs. Sonora
Update: The defending Division III section champs had an off week after downing Chico 28-6. Now the Timberwolves of Roseville gear up for payback week: Sonora repeated as a CIF State champion last season, and mowed over Woodcreek 41-14 in a NorCal title round with Wildcats coaches stressing afterward, “It’s real football out here.”

Update: The Tigers bounced back big from their opening loss to Destiny Christian to roll the top-ranked team in the Northern Section as Brody Cole passed for 333 yards and five touchdowns, two to Jonathan Fontenberry. Now a monstrous test looms Saturday night in Southern California in the form of state-ranked No. 1 Santa Margarita, last season’s CIF State Open Division champion.
11. Monterey Trail (1-1)

Update: The Mustangs of the Elk Grove Unified School District recovered fast from an opening loss at Bay Area powerhouse Pittsburg as Viliami Kefu passed for two touchdowns and rushed for 104 yards on four carries and a score against Downey. Xander McKee had 116 yards and two scores. Ethan Guerrero had 12 tackles to lead the defense.

Update: The Huskies are unbeaten against out-of-state competition as Zach Slade, Losi Asiata, Troy Bowens and Robert Peiffer scored touchdowns for the defending CIF Sac-Joaquin Section Division V champions.

Update: The Tigers are the oldest school in Roseville, and they just beat the second-oldest one in Oakmont with the newest one looming in West Park. Mateo Martinez, Jude Navarro and Hunter Felkins scored touchdowns.

This week: vs. Laguna Creek
Update: The Hillmen have relied on time-tested tradition and grit to back up their win over Casa Roble as Jesiah Aday rushed for a score and Cole Atwood hit Ryan Alonso for a 4-yard TD strike. The defense was unyielding, allowing 13 yards rushing.
15. Twelve Bridges (2-0)
Last week: Beat Redwood-Larkspur, 21-14
This week: vs. Whitney
Update: The Raging Rhinos of Lincoln extended their remarkable regular-season, non-playoff winning streak to 32 with a solid effort over a North Coast Section program. Brett Smiley completed 13 of 15 passes for 117 yards and a TD to Dylan Amos, and Josh Chittom rushed for 152 yards. The place expects to be buzzing with anticipation this week against Whitney, a school located barely a mile away.

Update: A week after beating West Park 22-6, the Wildcats of Placer County beat the Lincoln Zebras 13-0 as Bradley Duncan hit Bryson Leahey for a touchdown pass, and Cash Stevens rushed for 201 yards and a score and made 11 tackles in another stellar effort.

Update: The Hawks of Galt rolled by rushing 27 times for 315 yards and four scores, two by Joe Lara and one from Andrew Quinn, who rushed for 134 yards. Ryan Ogas had two TD passes, and Wyatt Corriea made 15 tackles.
