There have been many basketball superstars whose auras were so strong and pervasive that they owned every room they entered, leaving everyone, including teammates, tiptoeing around them.

When they were at the height of their powers, the basketball world revolved around hoop icons such as Michael Jordan, Kobe Bryant, and Magic Johnson, whom their teammates often found difficult to relate to. This essentially meant that everyone had to raise their game to the superstar’s level or risk getting left behind.
That said, with the amount of game Indiana Fever superstar Caitlin Clark, one can only assume what she’s like when the cameras stop recording inside the team’s locker room. Given how dominant she has been since entering the WNBA a few years ago, she could be the same with her teammates, expecting them all to fall in line behind her.
If anybody had that inkling about the former Iowa ace, they’re dead wrong. As Fever guard Sophie Cunningham detailed, Caitlin may be superhuman on the hardwood floor, but off it, she’s as normal as any young lady could be.
One big dork
As transcendent as MJ, Luka Doncic, and Victor Wembanyama are in the NBA, Caitlin has had the same impact on the W. Whereas before, teams used to play in half-empty arenas, they’re now showcasing their talents before national audiences. In addition, Caitlin’s incredible play has helped influence the new CBA, paving the way for the players to enjoy higher salaries and better accommodations.
With everything that she’s done at 24, one can imagine Caitlin being a diva behind closed doors, but Sophie let on about what the former Rookie of the Year is really like.
“First of all, I think she is such a normal human. She truly is. Like, she loves ball, you know what I mean? But my favorite story? I don’t even know if I have a favorite story, but she’s a big ole dork,” Sophie stressed.
Despite all the pressure on her shoulders to carry the Fever and the W, Sophie emphasized that Caitlin has done so with equal parts grace and strength. With her stature as the league’s most influential player, inviting critics and naysayers from all sides, Sophie marveled at how she had tuned out all the noise and focused on the main thing.

“I think it’s just an overall, like, you kind of go in and you don’t know what to expect. She’s a generational player; she has all this tension and carries it all so well, especially being her age,” Cunningham proclaimed.

A healthy vibe
As the video of Caitlin hiding her feet from her Team USA teammates went viral, it showed what Sophie meant. As cutthroat as a competitor, the dynamic playmaker and longball threat is on the court; she’s a playful sprite off it. An oddball and a goof who can easily drain shots from 40 feet out.

“I promise you, she’s the biggest dork you will ever meet,” Cunningham declared. “So I just love her. Like, love her whole vibe. There’s not one whole story that kind of sticks out.”
The basketball world often sees Caitlin playing hard and doing all she can to tow the Fever to a win. This can often rub people the wrong way, especially when she throws fits when things don’t go her way. However, Sophie sees her differently. Away from the pressure and scrutiny, women’s basketball biggest superstar is apparently one big dork.
