The 1998 fantasy romance stars Sandra Bullock and Nicole Kidman as two sisters descended from a long line of witches. Raised by their aunts, the two women must learn to use magic to survive love, heartbreak and a family curse.
Here’s where you can stay to get a taste of the magic:
Where was ‘Practical Magic’ filmed in Washington?
Although set in coastal Massachusetts, part of “Practical Magic” was filmed in Coupeville on Whidbey Island, about 30 miles north of Seattle.
The movie features several Coupeville storefronts that “capture the historic seaport feel” of the waterfront village, including Toby’s Tavern and Molka Xete Mexican Kitchen, according to Whidbey and Camano Islands Tourism.
“The farmers market shown in the movie, shot in downtown Coupeville was stocked with real produce from local farmers and with seafood donated by Penn Cove Shellfish,” the tourism bureau said.
The exterior of the enchanting Victorian home occupied by Bullock and Kidman’s characters, Sally and Gillian Owens, was built on San Juan Island, according to Architectural Digest.
“Just moments after the filming wrapped, the whimsical mansion was torn down piece by piece,” Architectural Digest contributor Claudia Williams wrote in an October 2025 article.
Sets for the home’s “rich interiors” were built in Los Angeles, Architectural Digest said.
How can I stay at a ‘Practical Magic’ house lookalike?
Bewitching homes like the one seen in “Practical Magic” can be found across the Pacific Northwest — and some of them let you stay the night.
USA Today recently highlighted one such lodging option: Castle Cove Inn on the Ocean in Chemainus, British Columbia.
“I grew up dreaming of living in a gothic seaside escape like the home occupied by the Owens sisters within the fantasy-romance flick” Kyley Warren, development editor of USA Today Shopping, wrote in a Sept. 1 article. “So, you can imagine my delight upon discovering a ‘Practical Magic’ house lookalike that’s … hailed as a ‘coastal replica’ of the fictional mansion …”
Castle Cove Inn on the Ocean isn’t “quite as updated” as the home in “Practical Magic,” Warren said. “And no, you’re not likely to find unattended spell books or overgrown ivy — but it is still cozy nonetheless.”
What is British Columbia Airbnb like?
A short drive from downtown Chemainus, Castle Cove Inn on the Ocean features a total of three bedrooms and one-and-a half bathrooms.

The short-term vacation rental offers ocean views and access to the beach, plus a fire pit and sun loungers for outdoor gatherings. You can even borrow a kayak to explore the water.
You can make your own midnight margaritas in the kitchen, or take part in an enchanting ritual in the private backyard.
According to Airbnb, up to 16 guests can stay on the property.
Staying at Castle Cove Inn on the Ocean costs $150 a night.
If you’re hoping to stay this cozy house, however, you’re going to have to wait a bit.
As of Wednesday, Sept. 9, the Castle Cove Inn was completely booked until March 2027, according to the Airbnb website.
It takes about three hours and 25 minutes to travel from Bellingham to Chemainus by car and ferry.
The Canadian city is about five hours from Tacoma and Olympia.
What do Airbnb reviews say about Castle Cove Inn on the Ocean?
Francis of Tofino, Canada, called the bed-and-breakfast a “magical spot” with “unbeatable” views.
“The property needs a fair bit of touching up but the location and uniqueness of the place make up for it in spades,” the Airbnb user wrote in his five-star review. “We had a lovely experience.”
“This place is magical. Wish I could have stayed longer!” Airbnb reviewer Tonde of Niagara-on-the-Lake, Canada, wrote.
“This is by far our favorite beach house to date,” Christina of Parksville, Canada, wrote in her five-star review on Airbnb. “It was an absolutely breathtaking experience.”
When does ‘Practical Magic 2’ open in theaters?
A long-awaited sequel to “Practical Magic” is coming soon to cinemas.
“Practical Magic 2” opened in movie theaters nationwide on Thursday, Sept. 10, 2026.
The movie follows the Owens family as they set out to break a generational curse that left them loveless for centuries.
