The general election is Nov. 3 in California, with local, state and federal races on the ballot.

Here’s what to know.

How to opt out of political robocalls and robotexts

Robocalls and robotexts to mobile phones require prior consent, the FCC said. Robocalls to landlines do not, but are limited to no more than three in the same 30-day period.

These rules cover political campaign-related autodialed or prerecorded voice calls, including autodialed live calls, autodialed texts and prerecorded voice messages.

“The called party can revoke consent at any time and in any reasonable manner, such as replying ‘stop’ to a text or asking not to be called again on a voice call,” the FCC said.

The opt-out only applies to that particular group or campaign, however.

How to opt out of political campaign calls

The FCC suggests telling callers you don’t want further calls and asking them to place you on the organization’s internal do-not-call list.

As with robocall and texts, this only applies to that campaign or organization.

How to report unwanted political calls

If you think you’ve received a robocall or robotext that breaks these rules, you can file an informal complaint. You also can call the FCC at 888-225-5322 to file a complaint.

Written complaints can be sent to the Federal Communications Commission, Consumer and Governmental Affairs Bureau, 45 L Street NE, Washington, DC, 20554.
