UC Davis routs San Diego behind emerging QB Treynor Cleeland to move to 2-0

A week after trailing 21-0 at the half before a late rally to beat Portland State, the FCS No. 6-ranked Aggies blew past the host Toreros, 49-17, to improve to 2-0.

Treynor Cleeland struggled in the first half in his debut at Portland State but was on point against the Toreros. The sophomore quarterback completed 22 of 31 passes for 287 yards and five touchdowns. He found All-American Samuel Gbatu Jr. nine times for 121 yards and two scores.

Jordan Fisher rushed for 14 times for 71 yards and a score, and he caught a touchdown, and Mateo Perez had a 79-yard touchdown sprint and 123 yards on nine carries as the Aggies piled up 231 yards rushing and 530 total yards. Seven Aggies carried the ball and nine receivers caught a pass.

The Aggies scored four touchdowns in the second quarter for a 28-7 halftime lead in moving to 10-1 all-time against the Toreros since the series started in 2006.

UCD plays at FBS-level SMU in Texas on Sept. 12 and plays its home opener on Sept. 19 against Stetson of Florida.
