Connecticut center Brittney Griner finished with a game-high 11 rebounds, while guard Leila Lacan finished with a team-high 18 points. Ogunbowale finished with a game-high three 3-pointers, resulting in nine points in 26 minutes of action. For Ogunbowale, the point total is below her season average of 13.3 per game and well below her career average of 19.4.
Even with the single-digit scoring total, the 5-foot-8 guard was able to make history during Thursday’s game. In the fourth quarter, with 6:47 remaining, Ogunbowale made a deep step-back 3-pointer over Griner. The shot was not only the Divine Savior Holy Angels High School graduate’s third of the game, but also the 585th made 3-pointer of her career.
The total pushed Ogunbowale to 14th on the WNBA’s all-time career 3-pointers made list, passing Kara Lawson’s 584. Next on the list for the former Notre Dame Fighting Irish standout to pass is Tamika Catchings, who has 606. Diana Taurasi holds the record for 3-pointers made with 1,447, while Sue Bird is the only other player with more than 1,000 made (1,001).
