A 37-year-old woman died at the scene of a multi-vehicle collision that left four others injured near Desert Hot Springs on Thursday, July 23.

The collision was reported at 12:45 p.m. at Mountain View Road and Club House Drive in the unincorporated community of Garnet, according to the Riverside County Fire Department.
The agency stated that crews found a collision involving three vehicles, two of which were on fire. Firefighters doused the vehicle fires, and Mountain View Road was temporarily closed.
Ashley Lopez, a resident of Desert Hot Springs, was pronounced dead at the scene, according to the Riverside County coroner’s office.
The collision occurred when a man veered his vehicle into the southbound lanes and struck a vehicle carrying a driver and three children, killing that driver, according to a California Highway Patrol spokesperson.

The man driving the other vehicle sustained major injuries and remained in treatment. Two of the children suffered moderate to major injuries, while the third had minor injuries.
It was not immediately clear what caused the crash, which remains under investigation.
