While he still has his power and speed, stealing 31 bags while being caught just seven times, he is simply not collecting enough hits this year.
It comes at a particularly bad time for Chisholm as he is set to enter unrestricted free agency at the end of this season, and given how disappointing this year has been it may be hard for him to find the contract he has been searching for.
The Yankees offense has struggled mightily throughout the month of August without three of their top hitters in Aaron Judge, Cody Bellinger and Giancarlo Stanton.
After Saturday’s loss against the Toronto Blue Jays, manager Aaron Boone revealed he would be shaking up the lineup to try and break the team out of its slump.
Boone then revealed the lineup for Sunday’s series finale and Chisholm was not in it, with utility man Jose Caballero stepping in at second base.

With speculation building around whether this lineup change could be permanent, especially given that the Blue Jays are going with right-hander Dylan Cease on the mound and Chisholm as a lefty would have the platoon advantage, Boone shut it down.

With Chisholm being held out, he will effectively get two days off in a row to reset as the Yankees will not play on Monday.
He will still be available off the bench as a pinch-hit option, but given how much he has struggled a full day to clear his head could be exactly what he needs heading into the final stretch of the season.
