A body recovered from Clear Lake on Monday was identified as Karmagit Singh, 37, of Yuba City, who was reported missing Sept. 18, the Lake County Sheriff’s Office announced in a news release.

Singh had not been seen since the morning of Sept. 17, when he told his family he planned to take his inflatable kayak to Clear Lake. Singh’s vehicle was found near Highway 20 in Lucerne. Law enforcement used boats, drones and shoreline patrols to search the area but did not find him.
A fisherman spotted Singh’s body in the water Monday morning and called 911, according to the Sheriff’s Office. Deputies did not observe any apparent signs of foul play. Singh was not wearing a life jacket when his body was recovered, and the circumstances surrounding his death remain under investigation.

The Lake County Sheriff’s Office urged people using Clear Lake and other local waterways to wear properly fitted life jackets. “Conditions can change quickly,” deputies said in the news release. “Wearing a life jacket is one of the simplest steps you can take to stay safe.”
