A person has been arrested in connection with a fire that blackened the popular Stockton Boulevard supermarket La Superior early Friday, Sacramento Fire Department officials said.

Sacramento Fire Department crews arrived just after 4 a.m. to find heavy smoke coming from the supermarket in the 4900 block of Stockton Boulevard, said fire Capt. Justin Sylvia, a department spokesperson. Sylvia said 36 firefighters responded to the blaze.
Department officials called the fire “suspicious,” in a social media post.
“There were obvious signs of forced entry on arrival making this fire suspicious,” the post read. Video accompanying the post showed shattered glass at the supermarket’s entrance and smoke and fire damage to sales racks, displays, walls and the market’s floor.

Authorities reviewed security footage and arrested a person in connection with the blaze. Information about the suspect was not immediately available. Jail records show a 51-year-old man was booked into the Sacramento County Main Jail on suspicion of arson and burglary. He was being held in lieu of $75,000 bail and was expected to be arraigned Tuesday in Sacramento Superior Court.

The cause of the fire and a motive were under investigation Friday.
