College football’s Week 6 slate for the 2026 season featured Georgia’s 20-17 win over Alabama, Oklahoma’s upset of Texas and Kentucky’s overtime victory over LSU. Additionally, Notre Dame easily handled Stanford to remain unbeaten, Ole Miss handled Vanderbilt to rebound after a loss to Florida in Week 5 and Missouri followed up last week’s upset of the Gators with a 27-6 victory over Texas A&M. Those results (and the others from a busy Saturday of action) significantly shifted the playoff and bowl projections for several teams.

UCLA joins the projected playoff following its road upset of Oregon. The Bruins have a favorable slate the rest of the way, but coach Bob Chesney’s team will travel to Michigan and host USC to close a tricky end to the ’26 slate. Whether or not the Big 12 gets a second (or third) team into the 12-team field is one of the toughest projections this week. For now, we’ll project just one team (BYU) into the playoff, but Utah, Texas Tech, Oklahoma State and Houston are in the mix.
The postseason begins on Dec. 15 with two matchups and continues until Jan. 25 with the national championship at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas. The playoffs start on Dec. 18 with one first-round game, followed by three on Saturday, Dec. 19, hosted at on-campus sites. The quarterfinals are slated for Dec. 30 and Jan. 1. The semifinals for the College Football Playoff take place on Jan. 14 and Jan. 15; the Orange Bowl and Sugar Bowl host the matchups.
Due to conference realignment, some of the bowl tie-ins will be scrambled again in ’26. Former Pac-12 teams are eligible for bowl appearances in the conference’s old tie-ins.
Just missing the projections: Auburn, Vanderbilt, Illinois, Florida State, California, Tulsa, UCF, Iowa State, TCU, Marshall, Colorado State, Georgia Southern, Texas State, Western Kentucky, UConn, Temple, East Carolina, Eastern Michigan, San Jose State, UAB, Hawaii, San Diego State and Kennesaw State. How will the postseason matchups look by December? Below are Athlon Sports’ predictions for every bowl and playoff game in 2026-27 after Week 6:
