Five south Sacramento light rail stations will be closed for just under three weeks as construction continues to accommodate new low-floor trains.

A bus bridge — or shuttles — will be in place Friday through Sept. 30 between the Meadowview and City College stations, a stretch covering about four miles of track. The affected section of the Blue Line also included Florin, 47th Avenue and Fruitridge, according to Sacramento Regional Transit.
The shuttles are scheduled to operate every 20 to 30 minutes. Riders should plan for extra travel time because buses are subject to traffic.
During the closure, construction crews will be making platform upgrades to the 47th Avenue station and shelter adjustments at the Fruitridge station to prepare them for the new S700 low-floor light rail vehicles. The trains, which began operating on the Gold Line in fall 2024, allow passengers to board at platform level and are meant to be more accessible for riders.

Regional Transit estimates that the new trains will be able to begin operating on the Blue Line in 2027.
Trains cannot pass through the area while construction is active, RT said. The closure initially stopped at the Florin station but was extended south to the Meadowview station due to “power restrictions through the construction area,” RT spokesperson Jessica Gonzalez said in an emailed statement.
