At 12:01 a.m. on Monday, the NWS Reno NV issued a heat advisory valid from Wednesday 8 a.m. until Thursday 8 a.m. for Surprise Valley California.
The NWS informs, “For the Heat Advisory and the Extreme Heat Watch, highs 95 to 101 degrees with overnight lows between 56 to 62 degrees. Widespread Moderate HeatRisk.”

“Heat-related illnesses will be more likely, especially for those spending extended periods outdoors, in poorly cooled indoor spaces, or who are sensitive to heat,” adds the NWS.
This advisory is in effect until Thursday at 8 a.m.
Tips from the NWS for staying safe during a heat wave
- Consume plenty of fluids to stay hydrated.
- Find cool shelter: Stay in an air-conditioned room.
- Look out for others: Stay out of the sun, and check up on relatives and neighbors.
- Ensure child and pet safety: Do not leave young children and pets unattended in vehicles when car interiors can reach lethal temperatures in a matter of minutes.
- Exercise caution outdoors: If you work or spend time outside, take additional safety measures.
- Select the ideal time: If possible, move strenuous activities to early morning or evening for more favorable conditions.
- Recognize warning signs: Know the signs and symptoms of heat exhaustion and heat stroke.
- Stay cool with clothing: Wear lightweight and loose-fitting clothing.
To reduce risk during outdoor work, the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) recommends scheduling frequent rest breaks in shaded or air-conditioned environments. Anyone overcome by heat should be moved to a cool and shaded location. In an emergency, call 911.
