Into Mischief is the defining sire of his generation, topping the North American sire charts for seven consecutive years, and sitting in second place in his bid for an eighth straight title in 2026.
The sons and daughters of Into Mischief have achieved at the sport’s highest levels, including two Horses of the Year, three Kentucky Derby winners, one Belmont Stakes winner, eight Eclipse Award winners, two Sovereign Award winners, a record-tying nine Breeders’ Cup winners, and an astounding 101 graded or group stakes winners.
Even among the lofty heights of the sires standing for six figures, Into Mischief towers above the rest in terms of getting his runners into the most important winner’s circles in the game.
Of the 11 non-freshman North American sires who stood for six-figure advertised fees in 2026 (Constitution, Curlin, Good Magic, Gun Runner, Into Mischief, Justify, Not This Time, Nyquist, Quality Road, Tapit, and Vekoma), Into Mischief is tied with Not This Time for the highest percentage of stakes winners from foals of racing age at 10 percent. He ranks second in that cohort by percentage of starters from foals of racing age (80%) and winners from foals of racing age (58%), and he is third by wins from total progeny starts (17%).
This year’s class of runners by Into Mischief displays his routine strength at the top of the pyramid, led by defending Horse of the Year Sovereignty, who won a deep edition of the Grade 1 Whitney Stakes at Saratoga Race Course. His 3-year-olds crop once again made noise on the Triple Crown trail, led by Renegade and Commandment, both winners of Grade 1 final preps toward the Kentucky Derby who finished the chase with classic placings.
Also of interest for shoppers looking to buy this colt for the long-term is Into Mischief’s value as a sire of sires. The list of sons that Into Mischief has sent to stud at major Kentucky farms is long, including Authentic, Barnes, Citizen Bull, Fulsome, Goldencents, Highly Motivated, Instagrand, Life Is Good, Mandaloun, Maximus Mischief, Newgate, Patch Adams, Practical Joke, and Timberlake.
Hip 1001 is out of the Bernardini mare Havisham, whose produce record features three winners from five foals to race.
The star of the page is Serengeti Empress (by Alternation), the Kentucky Oaks winner who became one of the top fillies of her generation. She was a Grade 2 winner during her 2-year-old season, and she won the G2 Rachel Alexandra Stakes at the Fair Grounds to kick off her sophomore campaign on her way to a front-running 1 ¾-length triumph at Churchill Downs. The second half of her 3-year-old run featured a trio of Grade 1-placings, including the Breeders’ Cup Distaff against older competition.
After performing so well around two turns at age three, Serengeti Empress reinvented herself as a sprinter at four, taking the G1 Ballerina Stakes at seven furlongs before finishing second in the Breeders’ Cup Filly & Mare Sprint.

Serengeti Empress has already proven that talent won’t skip generations in this family, with her early broodmare career giving us stakes-placed Invictus, sired by Into Mischief, the same as Hip 1001.
The ability to pass on talent to future generations was further illustrated by Proudly, a full-sister to Serengeti Empress who is the dam of Grade 2-placed Let’s Be Frank (by Liam’s Map), who competed in last year’s Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Turf.
The colt’s page presents a strong international flavor, with second dam Love Dancing being a Group 2 winner in her native Argentina and third dam Le Midi being a multiple Group 2 winner and group stakes producer in the same country.
The stakes success of Serengeti Empress’ son Invictus was just a taste of the power that the Into Mischief-over-Bernardini mare cross has produced on the racetrack, but the up-close example proves that the family of Hip 1001 has the capability of taking that cross to the highest level.
“The highest level” is no exaggeration. Sovereignty, last year’s Horse of the Year who won the Kentucky Derby, Belmont Stakes, and Travers Stakes, is a product of the Into Mischief-over-Bernardini cross.
The Stonestreet breeding program has been one of the greatest supporters of the Into Msichief/Bernardini cross, and one of the most prominent sources of it at auction.
That charge is led by Owendale, a son of Into Mischief out of the Bernardini mare Aspen Light, who became a multiple Grade 3 winner who earned classic placing in the Preakness Stakes (the same mare also produced Grade 1 winner Shred the Gnar from the same sire, outside of the Stonestreet umbrella). Atropa, out of Bellera, earned Grade 2 placing last season as a 2-year-old. Valentinian, out of Grade 1 winner Rachel’s Valentina, also became a stakes-placed runner.
As we’ve established, Into Mischief is already a high-percentage sire when it comes to on-track success, but pairing him with Bernardini mares bumps his numbers even higher. The 74 percent winners from starters produced from the cross is higher than either side of the equation performs when paired with other lines. Even more impressive is the 12 percent stakes winners from starters produced by the cross, which is twice that of Bernardini mares paired with other sires.
