Baking staples recalled for undeclared allergen sold in CA. What to know

A handful of recalls are affecting California consumers.

A manufacturer has recalled flour and other baking products because they could contain an undeclared allergen, according to a company notice shared by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration.

The recalled baking products were distributed nationwide, including in California.

People with food allergies or sensitivities should check their pantry for the affected products before using them.

Which food products were recalled in California? Why?

On Friday, Sept. 18, Washington-based company GF Blends recalled all-purpose flour and gluten-free mixes due to “potential undeclared wheat allergen,” according to the FDA.

“People who have celiac disease or a severe gluten intolerance run the risk of adverse health effects or allergic reactions if they consume these products,” the federal agency said.

GF Blends said the recalled products were made with plantain flour supplied by PMF Global and labeled as “certified gluten free.”

However, independent third-party testing confirmed that the plantain flour contained gluten, the recall notice said.

As of Thursday, Sept. 17, GF Foods said it had not received any reports of “adverse health effects” related to the recalls.

How can I tell if I bought recalled flour, bread or pizza mix?

The FDA said the recalls affect the following products:

• Truly AIP All Purpose Flour, 15.3-ounce package: Lot Nos. 260225, 260610
• Truly AIP Bread Mix 14-ounce package: Lot Nos. 260417, 260617
• Eat G.A.N.G.S.T.E.R. Flat Bread Pizza Mix, 163-gram and 3.98-pound packages: Lot Nos. 260327, 260803

The recalled products have a “best by” dates ranging from July 27, 2027, to June 10, 2028.

Where were recalled baking products sold?

According to the FDA, the recalled products were distributed to customers across the United States “up to Sept. 12” via Eatgangster.com, TrulyAIP.com and Amazon.com.

What should I do if I bought recalled flour or baking mix?

“Consumers who have celiac disease or a severe wheat gluten intolerance should not consume the recalled products,” the FDA said.

Instead, return the product to the place where you purchased it for a full refund or throw it away.
