Sophie Cunningham turned in a strong performance for the Indiana Fever on Tuesday night. The 6-foot-1 guard registered 11 points on 4-of-7 shooting, two rebounds, two assists and three triples in 29 minutes of action. Cunningham helped lead Indiana to a crucial 96-77 home victory over the league-best Minnesota Lynx.

This marked Cunningham’s first double-digit scoring game since Aug. 22. She broke out of her recent shooting slump, which included a scoreless outing in a season-low seven minutes of playing time on Sunday against the Washington Mystics.
Ahead of Tuesday’s win against the Lynx, Fever head coach Stephanie White addressed Cunningham’s limited playing time in their last game. The former WNBA Coach of the Year highlighted rookie Raven Johnson’s strong performance, which earned the young guard a season-high 26 minutes.
White acknowledged that Cunningham’s limited opportunities were significantly affected by Johnson’s impressive play, particularly on defense. “It really helps us when she’s hitting shots,” White said of Cunningham.
That’s exactly what Cunningham did on Tuesday night against the Lynx. She found her touch from beyond the arc, knocking down three out of her six three-point attempts. One of her triples came at a key moment for the Fever. It was their first basket of the second half, ending Minnesota’s 11-0 run.

Cunningham will look to keep her momentum going in the Fever’s next contest. They face the Lynx again on Thursday in Minnesota for their final regular-season game.
The Fever remain fifth in the standings with a 28-15 record. A win against the Lynx on Thursday could give them a chance to finish as the No. 4 seed, securing home-court advantage in the first round of the WNBA playoffs.
However, the Fever will also need Angel Reese and the current No. 4 seed Atlanta Dream to lose their final game on Wednesday against the New York Liberty.
