A semi-truck hauling a backhoe crashed Wednesday morning into a Highway 50 overpass in Rancho Cordova, breaking loose a piece of concrete, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The unsecured bucket of the backhoe struck the western edge of the Bradshaw Road overcrossing about 8:20 a.m. as the semi-truck was traveling east on the freeway. A 6- to 10-inch piece of concrete broke loose from the 15-foot, 2-inch-tall overpass, and a “small amount” of oil spilled from the backhoe onto the underside of the overcrossing and a vehicle traveling behind the truck, according to a CHP news release.

No one was injured, and no lanes were closed following the collision.
A Caltrans crew inspected the bridge and determined there was no immediate hazard and that the damage did not require immediate repair, according to the CHP release.
