Sunday on the North Shore is starting wet. Heavy rain bands were moving over Acrisure Stadium on Sunday morning, and the field was still under the tarp at 9 a.m. ahead of the Pittsburgh Steelers’ 1 p.m. kickoff against Jonathan Taylor and the Indianapolis Colts, according to Steelers Now photographer Ed Thompson, who said it won’t be uncovered for a while.

It isn’t clearing up by kickoff. The National Weather Service forecast puts the chance of rain at 94% at 1 p.m., with temperatures around 61 degrees, east winds near 12 mph and gusts as high as 25 mph. The rain chance doesn’t drop below 50% until around 4 p.m., so most of the first half, and probably much of the second, will be played on a soaked field.
Why the rain sets up Jonathan Taylor
The Colts were already built to run. Taylor has 353 yards on 86 carries, and he has gotten at least 19 carries in every game, including 20 or more in three of four. He could give the Steelers major problems even on a dry afternoon.
Weather like this gives Indianapolis even less reason to throw. Daniel Jones has four interceptions in four games and managed just 4.2 yards per attempt in last week’s win at Washington. A slick ball and swirling wind won’t help him.

Pittsburgh’s run defense hasn’t been airtight, either. The Steelers are allowing 112.8 rushing yards per game and 4.3 yards per carry, and the New England Patriots put up 136 on the ground against them in Week 2.
The Steelers have their own answer in Jaylen Warren, who has 309 yards on 55 carries, 5.6 per attempt, and ran for 127 and 93 yards the last two weeks. That matters more with Michael Pittman Jr. out, which gives Roman Wilson and Germie Bernard a huge opening in a passing game the weather is working against. And with gusts up to 25 mph, the kicking could decide it after a week in which we asked whether Pittsburgh should be concerned about Chris Boswell.
