Jayden Daniels will return on Sunday, three weeks after dislocating his elbow in gruesome fashion in a loss to the Dallas Cowboys.

The third-year NFL quarterback, who led the Commanders to an NFC Championship Game appearance as a rookie, will be back behind center against the New York Giants on Sunday afternoon.
Daniels is expected to play with a big brace on his elbow. However, some doctors believe that Daniels is taking a major “risk” by avoiding surgery and playing through the injury, even with a brace.
“Daniels visited specialists in New York and Los Angeles, and the overwhelming opinion was that playing with a brace was a viable option. But there are doctors around the league who, despite not having examined Daniels, maintain that a player who dislocates his elbow twice — as Daniels has over the past 11 months — is at a higher risk suffering another dislocation, according to sources,” Adam Schefter of ESPN reported.

Daniels is an electric and elusive player when he’s healthy. However, he’s a skinny quarterback who has faced injuries in the past.
At the same time, surgery isn’t seen as a preferred option right now.
“The problem for Daniels, and the Commanders, is that surgery likely would be the only way to fix the problem. With Daniels eligible for a second contract after the 2026 season, he needs to play as many games as possible (and play well) to unlock a significant deal,” Mike Florio shared.
“The coaching staff also has plenty of reasons to let him risk it, especially with Marcus Mariota injured. Dan Quinn has been around long enough to know that, if 2026 goes the way 2025 did, he won’t be around in 2027.”

Ultimately, it’s a risk Daniels and others appear to be willing to take.
