Sacramento County coroner’s officials identified the victim as William Allen Spears Jr., 48, of Sacramento, who was found dead on Folsom Boulevard west of Norcade Circle about 10:30 p.m. Thursday.
Investigators were initially unsure whether Spears had been struck by a vehicle. His visible injuries were minor, CHP officials said, and investigators awaited a determination of the cause of death from the Sacramento County Coroner’s Office before continuing their investigation.
The CHP said Monday that Spears was in the roadway outside a crosswalk when he was struck and killed by a driver who fled the scene. Investigators had no description of the driver or vehicle.
