George Marquez, 19, of Galt, was being held at the San Joaquin County Jail in lieu of $240,000 bail on suspicion of armed robbery following his arrest Sunday, by Lodi police.

Officers were first called to the 1900 block of Wyndham Way about 11 a.m. Sunday, where a juvenile said he had arranged to sell an iPad through social media. The buyer, later identified as Marquez, displayed a gun, stole the iPad and fled in a white SUV, the juvenile told police.

Video from a nearby surveillance camera helped investigators identify the SUV, police said.

Officers responded to another robbery report less than an hour later on Culbertson Avenue. Police said a suspect matching the description of the first robber met with a person who had arranged to sell a video game controller, then stole the item at gunpoint and drove away.

No one was injured in the robberies. Lodi police spotted Marquez’s vehicle near Harney Lane and Mills Avenue and detained him. Officers recovered both stolen items and a Glock 19 airsoft pistol tucked into Marquez’s waistband, police said.

Lodi police urged residents to take precautions when buying or selling items through social media and online marketplaces.

Marquez was scheduled to be arraigned Tuesday in San Joaquin County Superior Court in Stockton, according to jail records.
