Sac Tiki Week 2026 kicked off Sunday, bringing together fans of sweet mai tais and colorful plastic leis. A handful of tiki-themed events lead up to the Sac Ohana Tiki Home Bar Tour, an annual favorite among Northern California’s tiki enthusiasts.

Eight of the most elaborate Polynesian-inspired bars inside Sacramento-area homes open their doors and shake up specialty cocktails for a steady stream of visitors for one weekend only. However, the popular bar hop requires reservations because the bars are inside private homes. Spots sell out within minutes of becoming available.

This year, Sac Ohana, the group behind the annual bar tour, organized three other events throughout the week to give fans who missed out on tour reservations a chance to indulge in the “spirit of aloha.” Here’s how to participate in the first official Sac Tiki Week.

What is Sac Tiki Week?

Though Sac Ohana has previously hosted other events alongside the home bar tour, this year is the first time the festivities make up a dedicated Tiki Week, according to previous Bee reporting.

Matt Mitchell, a home tiki bar owner and chair of this year’s home bar tour, previously told The Bee that he and his Sac Ohana team decided to expand the calendar of events surrounding the tour for fans unable to secure reservations. This year’s tour sold out in two minutes, organizers said on social media.

The inaugural Sac Tiki Week started Sunday with the Explorer’s Tropical Bazaar and Rum Fest, which featured 20 vendors selling tiki-themed and tropical merchandise at the Streets of London Pub in West Sacramento. At nearby RoCo Wine & Spirits, visitors were able to sample a variety of rums from different brands.

Sac Tiki Week continues with two other community events before Sac Ohana’s signature home bar tour runs from Friday through Sunday.

What events are going on for Sac Tiki Week?

In addition to the bar tour, tiki fans can watch a documentary exploring the creation of elaborate home tiki bars like those in Sacramento, then see local home bartenders compete for the title of the area’s best tiki bartender.

On Tuesday night, enthusiasts are invited to gather at Tower Theatre for a screening of “Cabali and the Tiki Mug Obsession.” The documentary explores how devoted collectors like Doug “Fini” Finical of Arizona have amassed extensive collections of tiki mugs, sometimes transforming their passion into elaborate home bars featuring custom pieces created by artisans.

“Cabali” has debuted at multiple independent film festivals, including the Napa Valley Fork2Film Festival and the Newport Beach Film Festival.

The film screening starts at 7 p.m. at the theater, 2508 Land Park Drive, with a question-and-answer session featuring the filmmakers afterward. Tickets for the documentary’s Sacramento premiere are available on Sac Ohana’s website for $25, plus fees.

After the documentary, tiki lovers plan to gather at the Jungle Bird, 2516 J St. in midtown, for a post-screening party. Attendees are encouraged to bring their own tiki mugs to show off.

Six home bartenders will face off Thursday for a tiki trophy and the title of Sacramento’s best home bartender. The Sac Ohana Home Bartender Battle is slated to begin at 7 p.m. Thursday at the Jungle Bird.

Three prolific members of the home tiki bar community are judging the competition — Kevin Crossman, author of the Ultimate Mai Tai blog, Sacramento home bar operator Brenda Ray and Jungle Bird co-founder Buddy Newby. Among the Bartender Battle contestants is Joseph Thompson, who built his own home tiki bar, Hogo Joe’s.

This year’s bartenders are tasked with creating original drinks featuring one of three Planteray rums: Cut & Dry Coconut, Xaymaca or Stiggins’ Fancy Pineapple. Once the winner is crowned, a custom-carved tiki trophy created by father-and-son artist duo Kraken Carvings will hang over the Jungle Bird for the next year.

To close out the week, the tiki group will gather for a “closing expedition” at Shipwrecked Paradise Island, 1510 16th St., Suite 300, starting at 4 p.m. Sunday.

The latest information on events, bartender competition participants and other Sacramento tiki activities is available on Sacramento Ohana and the Sac Ohana Home Bar Tour’s social media pages.
