Bills vs. Lions Start ‘Em Sit ‘Em: Play Jameson Williams on TNF?

The first true Thursday Night Football game will grace our devices this week — and we fantasy football players are getting a true treat for the 2026-27 opener.

The Buffalo Bills host the Detroit Lions in their first home game at their new Highmark Stadium palace. They’ll christen their maiden voyage with what should be plenty of points — but they’ll probably also allow a bunch.

The Over/Under for this game is 54.5 as of overnight into Wednesday morning.

Warning: These TNF Start/Sit recommendations might feel boring; these two potent offenses carry plenty of fantasy stars, and I’m throwing in the complementary pieces for their ceilings this week.

Bills Week 1 Start ‘Em, Sit ‘Em vs. Lions

Start These Bills vs. Lions on TNF

  • QB Josh Allen: Elite QB1
  • RB James Cook: RB1/RB2
  • WR DJ Moore & Khalil Shakir: Moore WR2, Shakir Flex
  • TE Dalton Kincaid: TE1

You should trust just about every main piece of Buffalo’s offense against the Lions’ injury-weakened secondary.

Tyler Shough’s Saints nearly marched back to a comeback win after facing a 21-point deficit. We should be excited about Allen’s potential.

Sit These Bills vs. Lions on TNF

  • RB Ray Davis
  • WRs Keon Coleman and Josh Palmer
  • Bills D/ST

Those backups with upside do not yet belong in lineups; don’t overvalue that long Josh Palmer touchdown in Week 1.

Buffalo’s defense is a solid long-term play but will face too big a test against the Lions’ system, even with questions surrounding its efficacy following Drew Petzing’s hire as OC.

Start These Lions vs. Bills on TNF

  • QB Jared Goff: QB1/Superflex
  • RB Jahmyr Gibbs: No. 1 overall RB
  • WR Amon-Ra St. Brown & Jameson Williams: ARSB Elite WR1, Williams WR2/WR3
  • TE Sam LaPorta: Starter, much stronger in PPR

Gibbs and ARSB are weekly must-starts.

Goff should step up as a borderline 1QB play.

Williams and LaPorta will be weekly questions. JaMo saw 9 targets in Week 1 but caught just 4 for only 45 yards. Expect the Lions to test Buffalo deep, especially if they can give Goff time to test an uneven defensive backfield.

LaPorta straddles the starting line for most leagues, with full-PPR formats giving him a boost. He and Petzing, who loves this position, will be the reasons no third Lions wideout will have much value this year. (Sorry, Isaac TeSlaa truthers, you’ll likely need an injury to have your dreams come true this season.)

We don’t really have an RB2 to fade, and you can’t trust this Lions defense to make much happen with safeties Brian Branch and Kerby Joseph both on the Physically Unable to Perform (PUP) list.
