Browns vs. Jets Week 5 Inactives: Who’s In, Who’s Out as Elgton Jenkins Returns at Center

The Cleveland Browns have their starting center back. Elgton Jenkins is active against the New York Jets after missing Week 4 in the concussion protocol. Kickoff at MetLife Stadium is 1 p.m. ET.

Defensive tackles Mason Graham (knee, ankle) and Mike Hall Jr. (ankle) are inactive, along with guard Teven Jenkins (back), wide receiver Tylan Wallace (knee) and tight end Carsen Ryan (calf). All five were ruled out Friday.

No Browns were listed as questionable. Derek Barnett, Grant Delpit and Mekhi Blackmon were on the final report without a game status and are active.

Center Parker Brailsford is a healthy scratch, and rookie Taylen Green is the emergency third quarterback. Defensive tackles Sam Kamara and Chris Williams were elevated Saturday.

The Jets are without running back Breece Hall (quad), wide receiver Adonai Mitchell (finger), guard Dylan Parham (knee) and linebacker Kiko Mauigoa (quad). Questionable edge rushers Kingsley Enagbare and Will McDonald are active, and wide receiver Tim Patrick makes his Jets debut.

Here are both lists.

Elgton Jenkins returns to anchor the line

Jenkins was a full participant Wednesday. His pass protection has been the steadiest piece of a rebuilt line. He has an 82.4 pass-blocking grade from PFF, first among 33 centers, and has allowed one pressure in 179 snaps. Luke Wypler, who played all 65 snaps against the Steelers, goes back to a reserve role.

Teven Jenkins misses a fifth straight game, so Austin Barber stays at right guard. The Browns’ ground game ranks 23rd at 3.7 yards per carry.

Browns thin at defensive tackle again

Graham sprained his MCL and ankle against the Steelers. He had four sacks through three games before that. Mike Hall Jr. got hurt filling in, then returned and recorded his first sack of the season.

That leaves Maliek Collins, Adin Huntington and the two elevated tackles in the middle. “It’s next man up. I think that’s really what it is,” head coach Todd Monken said.

Jets offensive coordinator Frank Reich called Cleveland’s front “especially good at the movement, twists and game stuff.” We’ll see how it holds up.

The Browns (3-1) have won three straight, and the Dawg Pound back home wants a fourth. The Jets (1-3) have lost three in a row, including a 23-12 loss at Chicago in which the Bears ran for 232 yards. The game airs on CBS.
