A child was severely injured and airlifted from the Oceano Dunes on Saturday after the ATV they were driving crashed into two other riders on Saturday.

A 12- or 13-year-old boy was driving an all-terrain vehicle and “traveling at a high speed” near Post 4 at the Oceano Dunes State Vehicular Recreation Area when he collided with two other ATV riders on the beach, Jon O’Brien, the district superintendent for the California State Parks’ Oceano Dunes, told The Tribune.
He said the boy was “substantially injured” in the crash and airlifted out by REACH Air Medical Services helicopter. The two other riders involved sustained minor injuries.
State Parks lifeguards and rangers responded to the incident, as well as San Luis Ambulance and Cal Fire, according to O’Brien.

The injured boy was transported to Marian Regional Medical Center in Santa Maria.
