A new, 62-space parking lot is among the amenities coming to the park in the next few months, the city of Folsom said in a news update. Residents can also expect a new trail segment to improve accessibility and additional landscaping and lighting, among other improvements, the update said.
The city expects to complete construction in January 2027. During construction, visitors may see equipment in the park, and some access points may be limited. But the park’s existing facilities will remain open, according to the update.
The project comes as Folsom faces funding challenges across city government, including in its Parks and Recreation Department. The city anticipates at least $130 million in deferred maintenance for parks and facilities over the next decade, according to a May presentation by Folsom City Manager Bryan Whitemyer.

Funding for the project, however, comes from city funds dedicated to park development and improvements rather than the city’s general fund. The Folsom City Council approved a $1.3 million construction contract for the project in April.

The city’s Parks and Recreation Department called for the addition of basketball and tennis courts at the park more than a decade ago, according to its 2015 master plan. The plan outlined a host of improvements to be completed in phases, including an additional 136 parking spaces, new trails and community gardens.
The current construction is part of fifth phase of the plan, according to the city. It will not include the planned basketball or tennis courts. The park currently has baseball and softball fields, a multiuse soccer field and sand volleyball courts, among other amenities.
The project is intended to help Folsom meet a goal of 5 acres of parkland for every 1,000 residents, according to that recommended funding for the current construction project.
The report also said funding for the additional sports courts and a second, smaller parking lot would be considered at a later date.
