The Arizona Diamondbacks received encouraging news on Corbin Carroll ahead of Friday night’s series opener against the Texas Rangers. The star outfielder underwent an MRI after experiencing lower back discomfort, and the exam revealed no structural damage.

John Gambadoro of Arizona Sports 98.7 FM first reported the update on X, adding that Carroll is expected to return to the lineup Friday. That gives Arizona a major boost with the team fighting for a spot in the National League Wild Card race.
Carroll was scratched from Tuesday’s game against the Kansas City Royals because of the back issue. He subsequently missed the final two games of the series while the Diamondbacks waited for the MRI results.

The MRI ultimately provided the clarity Arizona was hoping for. Carroll is dealing with back spasms rather than a structural injury, allowing him to return without a significant absence.

The 26-year-old has appeared in 141 games this season, batting .240 with a .334 on-base percentage, a .466 slugging percentage, 19 home runs, 61 RBIs and 21 stolen bases. His recent offensive numbers have dipped, but his speed and defense remain important parts of Arizona’s lineup.
Carroll’s return also comes at an important point in the season. The Diamondbacks entered the weekend 78-69 and just a half-game behind the San Diego Padres for the final NL Wild Card spot.
Arizona will open its three-game home series against the Rangers at Chase Field on Friday night. Getting Carroll back in the lineup gives the Diamondbacks another key player as they try to stay in the postseason race.
After avoiding a more serious back injury, Carroll can now turn his attention back to helping Arizona close out the regular season.
