ESPN Will Officially Have 3 Different Alt-Casts For Super Bowl 61

ESPN will be broadcasting their first-ever Super Bowl this February and want to make sure that they get as many eyes on it as possible. To that end, they’re putting together no less than three alternate broadcasts (alt-casts) for fans who may not like watching the game in the normal way.

On Friday, Pat McAfee announced that he’d be getting his own alt-cast for the Super Bowl. For years he’s done CFP National Championship Game alt-casts and has started to get alt-cast duties on Monday Night Football this year.

On Sunday, Michael McCarthy of Front Office Sports confirmed that ESPN will be announcing three different alt-casts for Super Bowl LXI. Those alt-casts include the aforementioned McAfee broadcast (on ESPNU), the ManningCast with Super Bowl champions Peyton and Eli Manning (ESPN2) and “Playbook with Next Gen Stats” (NFL Network).

“ESPN is officially announcing 3 alt-casts for Super Bowl LXI,” McCarthy wrote on X.

  • Field Pass with The Pat McAfee show (ESPNU)
  • Playbook with Next Gen Stats (NFLN)
  • ManningCast (ESPN2)

“McAfee Show will also do FieldPass around 5 MNF telecasts + late season Sat. game.”

The Crowd Goes Mild

Fans that saw the news and ESPN’s announcement quickly took to the comments with the same complaint: They are tired of seeing McAfee and all of these alternate shows.

“McAfee sucks. We want less of him, not more,” one user replied.

“You’re gonna have completely ruined this Super Bowl by game time,” wrote another.

“Is anyone really going to watch all this?” a third wrote.

“More Mcafee just what we all want.”

But for those interested in the Next Gen Stats broadcast, Louis Riddick explained how it works:

“Playbook begins this coming Monday with Chase, Field, Seth, and myself. You want hardcore intelligent football talk about all three phases of the game, we will have it for you! See you Monday !!!” Riddick declared.

“Friends, cool news in here! We’ll have MNF Playbook TOMORROW NIGHT ON NFL NETWORK @FieldYates on play-by-play, @ChaseDaniel and @LRiddickESPN breaking down Xs and Os and me on analytics and game management! Plus, a camera angle that shows 22 players on the field!” Seth Walder wrote.
