ESPN’s Computer Predicts College Football’s 10 Most Likely Undefeated Teams

ESPN’s computer model, the Football Power Index, has released its projections for the upcoming season. The projections include which college football teams are most likely to go undefeated. You don’t need to go undefeated to reach the College Football Playoff in today’s era. Heck, you don’t even need to go 11-1 or 10-2. Some 9-3 teams will probably end up making the field.

But going undefeated is certainly a good start.

ESPN’s computer model, the Football Power Index, believes that the following 10 teams are most likely to go undefeated during the 2026 college football regular season.

The Football Power Index is a projection-based model, that uses 1,000s of simulations to project outcomes.

“The Football Power Index (FPI) is a measure of team strength that is meant to be the best predictor of a team’s performance going forward for the rest of the season. FPI represents how many points above or below average a team is. Projected results are based on 20,000 simulations of the rest of the season using FPI, results to date, and the remaining schedule. Ratings and projections update daily. FPI data from seasons prior to 2019 may not be complete,” the FPI describes.
