As bald eagle fans around the world mourn the death of Jackie, her longtime mate Shadow has been spotted with a possible new beau in Southern California.

Jackie, who gained fame from a bald eagle cam on her nest at Big Bear Lake, died Aug. 10 at the Ojai Raptor Center, where she had been taken to recover after falling ill following a fight with two other bald eagles, the center said.
“Over the past several days, her condition continued to deteriorate despite intensive treatment and the combined efforts of our veterinary team and consulting specialists,” center officials said.
”We know this news will be deeply felt by the many thousands of people around the world who have followed her journey, hoped alongside us, prayed for her, and supported the people caring for her,” officials said.
But Shadow, Jackie’s mate for nearly 10 years, has lately been seen on wildlife cameras with another bald eagle named KD1, Friends of Big Bear Valley said.

KD1 has visited Jackie and Shadow’s nest several times this week. Shadow joined her in the nest at least once.
“It is great to see Shadow up close and doing well,” Friends of Big Bear Valley said. “Is this a new bond forming between these 2? Well, it could be and it may not be, only time will tell. We can only observe and see what takes place once breeding season is upon us, which will not be until later this fall/winter season.”
“It reminds us that nature is nature and life will go on,” Jenny Voisard, spokeswoman for Friends of Big Bear Valley, the group that runs the eagle cameras and works to protect the wild birds, told USA Today. “People are finding comfort in the fact that Shadow’s not alone.”
