Former “SportsCenter” anchor Linda Cohn believes the Indiana Fever should seriously consider moving on from head coach Stephanie White once the 2026 season is over.

During the first quarter of the Fever-Sky game on Saturday afternoon, DiJonai Carrington struck Sophie Cunningham in the head and neck area as she was attempting a fast-break layup. The refs gave Carrington a flagrant 2 foul and ejected her from the game.
“Clearly, I think it was like unnecessary,” Cunningham said postgame. “I’ve never really spoken to her and have no beef with her, but I guess she has some pent-up stuff. So, get your s— off. That’s fine. I can take it.”
Apparently, Cunningham’s coach didn’t feel the same way about Carrington’s foul.
“Yeah, I mean, look, it was a hard foul. I don’t think that DiJonai intentionally came out to get her across the neck like she did. But it did happen and I thought it was the right call,” White told reporters. “She’s going to compete, no one’s going to walk in for an easy layup, so I don’t oppose the hard foul.”
Cohn, who was an ESPN anchor from 1992-2026, thought White did a disservice to her players with her postgame remarks.

“There is no coach in any sport on planet earth where Stephanie White would still be employed for supporting opposing players more than she supports her own, specifically Sophie Cunningham and Caitlin Clark,” said Cohn. “… I know her history and I know what a great player she used to be, but it’s not working with the Indiana Fever. The reason she’s not fired already is because the owners don’t care or because the Fever are doing well. But they are [contending] not because of Stephanie White, but because of Caitlin Clark and Kelsey Mitchell.”
Linda Cohn isn’t the only person who feels this way.
During a recent podcast appearance, Barstool Sports founder Dave Portnoy said the Fever need to fire White today for refusing to defend her players at the podium.
“Get her out of there. Fire her [expletive] today. I don’t want her back on that bench. Stop defending the other players… When do you ever see a coach in the NBA not defend their own players?” Portnoy said. “This isn’t politics. Your player got assaulted. Defend your player in the press conference.”
While we doubt the Fever make a coaching change at 20-12, it’s possible a major move gets made in the offseason.
