Police said thieves have primarily targeted newer-model Toyota Camry and Corolla vehicles, along with Honda Civic and Accord models equipped with sport trim wheels and tires.

According to the department, the thefts typically occur overnight or in the early morning hours at apartment complexes.

Authorities urged owners of the targeted vehicles to take preventive measures, including installing wheel locks or locking lug nuts, parking in well-lit areas and, when possible, storing vehicles in a secure garage.

“If you’re able, store your vehicle in a secure garage,” the department said in a social media post. “Ask your complex to install surveillance cameras if they don’t already have them.”

Police said the theft trend was not unique to Rocklin and had been reported in other communities.

Anyone who discovers that their vehicle’s wheels or tires have been stolen should contact the Rocklin Police Department’s non-emergency line at 916-625-5400 to file a report.
