More crews could soon head to the 613-acre Floriston Fire near Truckee as firefighters battled the wildfire for a second day Thursday.

Evacuation orders and warnings remained in place Thursday for areas of Nevada and Sierra counties affected by the blaze, and westbound Interstate 80 remained closed at the Nevada state line through the fire area as the wildfire burned Thursday with 5% containment.
Firefighters kept the blaze within its perimeter overnight, California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection officials said in an 8 a.m. update, plowing bulldozer lines along the fire’s south flank and carving hand lines around portions of the fire.
They will focus Thursday on the north side of the fire near Reno because of open land, down-canyon winds expected through Friday and low humidity. Fire planners say daytime humidity is 30%, with no rainfall in the forecast. Winds of 6-10 mph were expected Thursday, with gusts up to 20 mph. Temperatures were expected to range from the mid- to high 60s, with cold weather at night.
Despite the mild daytime temperatures and anticipated cold nights, fire danger remains high, officials said.
More personnel and equipment were ordered to the fire zone late Wednesday, Sacramento Metropolitan Fire District Chief Chris Vestal, an incident spokesperson, said Thursday. As many as 100 additional firefighters and pieces of equipment could arrive as early as Thursday.

A dozen hand crews were working alongside 20 engines, 10 water tenders, helicopters and bulldozers on the fire lines, according to Cal Fire.
Safety concerns, including the possibility of rolling debris from hillsides onto the roadway, kept westbound Interstate 80 closed on Thursday.
Caltrans and fire personnel will evaluate conditions to determine when the westbound interstate can safely reopen, Cal Fire officials said.
Motorists are advised to avoid the area, expect significant delays, and use alternate routes, the California Highway Patrol in Truckee said.
