Trade talks are heating up for All-Star catcher Hunter Goodman, but the Colorado Rockies are setting a firm baseline price.

According to Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic, the expected trio of AL East clubs, those being the Tampa Bay Rays, Boston Red Sox and New York Yankees, are all showing interest in acquiring Goodman ahead of next Monday’s trade deadline.
When asked, the Rockies have informed these clubs that they expect a multi-player package headlined by their number 1 prospect in return. This would be outfielder Theo Gillen from the Rays or infielder Franklin Arias from the Red Sox.

Colorado’s steep price makes sense. Goodman is just 26 years old and under team control for the next three seasons. Enjoying his second straight All-Star campaign, he has already matched his 2025 total with 31 home runs this season and boasts a career-best .872 OPS so far.
With several teams looking to upgrade at catcher and Goodman still on an upward trajectory, it is reasonable for the Rockies to expect a haul. But that doesn’t mean these clubs will be willing to meet such a high demand.

Gillen, 20, was the Rays’ first round pick just two years ago and currently ranks as MLB Pipeline’s No. 9 overall prospect. After a solid first season in Low-A, he exploded onto the scene with a .342 batting average, 12 home runs, 28 stolen bases, and a 1.038 OPS in 57 games at High-A this season before being promoted to Double-A. He has kept pace, mashing six more home runs, swiping eight more bags, and posting a .292 average with a .950 OPS in 24 games at the new level.
It’s been a similar story for Arias, who is in the midst of a breakout season that saw him promoted to Triple-A just a week ago. Batting .307 with a .963 OPS and 20 homers, the 20-year-old shortstop has climbed up prospect lists and now ranks No. 7 overall.
In terms of high-quality trade chips, Gillen and Arias would be two of the very best. And while Goodman is certainly the kind of star slugger that can change a team, questions about his defense have impacted his value for some teams.
The price on Goodman, like any other player, may very well change over the next few days as the August 3rd deadline approaches. But as it stands, he looks to be one of the most expensive options out there.
