San Francisco Giants catcher Daniel Susac isn’t known for his power, and he has cooled off considerably after a torrid start with the team earlier this season.

But you wouldn’t know it after watching the 25-year-old Roseville native launch a three-run blast Wednesday afternoon at Oracle Park — the first home run of his major-league career.
Susac’s second-inning homer gave the Giants a 3-0 lead, and it came in support of a fellow Placer County native: starting pitcher Logan Webb of Rocklin.
It didn’t take long for Susac to hit his second career homer. With the Giants up 13-3 in the bottom of the eighth, Susac went deep again, sending a solo home run to left-center field off Andrew Vaughn to make it 14-3. Vaughn, a position player, was pitching for the Milwaukee Brewers with the game out of hand, and the Giants went on to win 16-3, with Webb credited as the winning pitcher.
Susac is known more as a contact hitter than a home run threat, but he did hit three home runs for the Triple-A Sacramento River Cats in eight games earlier this season before getting promoted. His first homer Wednesday traveled 411 feet and left his bat at about 103 mph, according to MLB’s Statcast. The second traveled 379 feet at 97 mph.

A product of Jesuit High School in Carmichael, Susac joined the Giants last offseason and made his MLB debut April 1. A day later, he made his first MLB start at Oracle Park. He went 3-for-3 with a walk against the Mets, a performance that gained viral attention after the TV broadcast showed his young nephew Chuck kicking, screaming and crying in family members’ arms as they celebrated.
The Susac family’s baseball ties run deep in California’s capital region. His older brother Andrew also hit his first big-league home run for the Giants, in 2014, and his cousin Anthony, who was born in Sacramento, is in the Texas Rangers minor-league system.
That made it a family affair when the Giants visited the Athletics in West Sacramento in May. Ahead of that series, Daniel Susac recalled “going to River Cats game for birthday parties” as a child at the ballpark now known as Sutter Health Park, the temporary home of the A’s after they left Oakland in 2024.
Susac missed 16 games with a lower back strain before returning to the Giants in mid-July. He’s batting .254, and his homers Wednesday gave him his 18th and 19th RBIs of the season.
