Angel Reese is in the midst of a historic WNBA season. She also helped lead Team USA to victory in the recently concluded FIBA Women’s Basketball World Cup.

Reese played a key role for the national team, regularly contributing to head coach Kara Lawson’s rotation. She showcased her elite skill set and proved that she can also shine at the international level. The 6-foot-4 forward averaged 7.2 points on 59.1% shooting, 5.0 rebounds and 1.2 steals in 15.0 minutes off the bench.
The Atlanta Dream forward continues to receive praise for her game. The latest to give Reese her flowers is league legend Tina Thompson.
Thompson commended Reese for what she brings to the WNBA and to women’s basketball as a whole.
“What she brings is impactful,” Thompson said. “What Angel Reese does, it impacts winning. And it doesn’t necessarily mean scoring. She just set a WNBA record for the most double-doubles in a season. People that didn’t play, they don’t know how hard that is.
“So I like Angel. I like how she’s unapologetically herself. But I like that she’s taken a different route to impact the game that she’s not so fixated on scoring. She’s like, ‘Dirty work, I’ll get it done.’

“I wouldn’t mind being her teammate. It allowed me to be a little more finesse.”

Thompson entered the WNBA as the No. 1 overall pick in 1997 by the Houston Comets. She won four championships and earned nine All-Star selections. The 51-year-old retired in 2013 and started coaching two years later. The USC product served as the head coach of the Virginia Cavaliers from 2018 to 2022.
Meanwhile, Reese and the Dream will return to action on Thursday. They will host the Connecticut Sun at Gateway Center Arena for the first of their four remaining regular-season games. Atlanta currently sits fourth in the standings with a 26-14 record.
