Angel Reese is demanding some credit for growing the game of women’s basketball.
The third-year WNBA star is coming off a strong performance in the FIBA Women’s World Cup. Reese, who stars for the Atlanta Dream, was one of 12 players on Team USA’s roster for the 2026 FIBA Women’s World Cup. The Americans won the gold medal last weekend, taking down France.

Reese was teammates with Indiana Fever star Caitlin Clark on Team USA. The two WNBA stars, who have had a rivalry since college, were able to put their rivalry aside and bring home the gold. Now, Reese is speaking out against all of Clark’s fans, who only credit the Indiana Fever guard with growing the game of women’s basketball.
The WNBA star wants Clark’s fans to know: I’m responsible for growing the game of women’s basketball, too. I get some credit, it’s not just all about your favorite player in Caitlin Clark.
Reese didn’t hold back, making it clear that she deserves a lot of credit for growing the WNBA and women’s college basketball, too.
“I’ll be the person that gets the hate, but at the end of the day I’m growing women’s basketball and helping women’s basketball,” she told Complex.
Angel Reese isn’t wrong about that
Love her or hate her, Angel Reese has most definitely helped grow the game of women’s basketball.
The former LSU Tigers and Maryland Terrapins star was a standout player in college, had some legendary games in the NCAA Tournament and has since become a popular and successful WNBA player.
Clark is more responsible for helping grow the game of women’s basketball, of course, but that doesn’t mean that Reese deserves no credit.

The Atlanta Dream star is in her right to want to take credit for some of it.
