A man faces felony narcotics and firearm charges after he was found with bags of suspected opium during a Yuba City traffic stop, police said Thursday.

Sutter County sheriff’s deputies on Thursday detailed the Aug. 23 traffic stop near North Walton Avenue and Bridge Street.
Deputies initially pulled over the 21-year-old Yuba City man for numerous vehicle code violations before discovering the narcotics during a search of his vehicle, the Sutter County Sheriff’s Office said in a statement.
Deputies recovered numerous bags containing suspected powdered opium and several large bags containing dried opium bulbs, along with a loaded firearm. The search also uncovered devices that deputies said were used to process the dried opium into powdered form, along with a digital scale and packaging materials, according to the Sheriff’s Office.

Sutter County deputies arrested the man on suspicion of transporting or selling narcotics; possessing or purchasing narcotics for sale; possessing narcotics while armed with a loaded firearm; carrying a loaded firearm in a vehicle; and carrying a concealed weapon in a vehicle, according to the Sheriff’s Office.
The man was booked into the Sutter County Jail, where he posted bond later Aug. 23 and was released pending a Sept. 28 hearing in Sutter Superior Court.
