A mom-and-pop taco stand is closing at the end of September after serving the Sacramento region for more than two decades.

Island Tacos, located at the corner of 5088 Folsom Blvd., is set to permanently shut down on Sept. 30, signage posted on its door reads.
The stand operates from the parking lot of the Folsom Boulevard shopping center, across from University of Beer East Sacramento and Trader Joe’s.
Island Tacos opened in 2005 and is owned by Antonio and Maria Valderrama, who immigrated to Sacramento from Mexico, according to PBS KVIE’s Abridged. The restaurant is run by the Valderrama family.

The sign announcing the closure noted the owners are “deeply grateful for every conversation, every purchase, and every familiar face that walked through (their) doors.”
Island Tacos serves classic and inexpensive Mexican food, including street tacos for $2.25 each, tamales for $2.50 and burritos for $9, according to its menu. The taco stand also offers a separate “meatless” menu with vegan options.

Island Tacos is open 9:30 a.m. – 7:30 p.m. Mondays – Sundays.
