SANTA CLARA – Brock Purdy didn’t just rocket onto the NFL scene by leading the 49ers past Miami and winning NFC Offensive Player of the Week award on Wednesday.

The former feat – beating the Dolphins – famously happened in December 2022 when Purdy first ascended to the 49ers’ quarterback throne.
Sunday’s stellar encore saw him complete all but two of his 22 passes for 287 yards, two touchdowns, no interceptions and no sacks, while also supplying a touchdown run and a team-high 30 rushing yards in the 35-13 home-opening rout. He completed 18 passes in a row before throwing away his final attempt and drawing an intentional-grounding penalty.
“I honestly didn’t know until toward the end, fourth quarter, maybe,” Purdy said of that streak. “For me, dude, we had two drives first half, so every play, every drive mattered. It wasn’t like we went out and blew these guys out.”
He became the first player in NFL history to complete at least 90% of his passes, throw for at least 285 yards and two touchdowns, and run for a touchdown in the same game.
His 149.1 passer rating marked the eighth time in his career he’s rested the 140.0. mark, setting a NFL record for the most such games by a fifth-year quarterback and passing Roger Staubach, Ben Roethlisberger and Kurt Warner.
Purdy received his third career player-of-the-week honors in the wake of that showing. The other two: a 2023 home win over Tampa Bay, and last season’s Week 16 victory at Indianapolis.

Purdy leads the NFL in completion percentage (80.4), is third in passer rating (125.6), third in touchdown percentage (8.9%), and tied for fourth in yards per attempt (8.8).
His career passer rating of 104.9 is just 91 attempts shy of qualifying for the best in NFL history.
Next up is Sunday’s home game between the 49ers (2-0) and the Arizona Cardinals (1-1). Since Levi’s Stadium opened in 2014, the Cardinals are 7-5 there.
Purdy is 10-7 in regular-season action at home, 4-0 in the playoffs. The 26-year-old native of Queen Creek, Ariz., is 5-1 all-time against the Cardinals, with that lone loss coming in2024 and him missing last year’s home game because of a toe injury.
The only game in which he had a better completion that last Sunday’s (90.9%) was a 2023 home win over the Cardinals (95.2%; 20-of-21).
