An elderly woman was struck and killed in a hit-and-run incident early Wednesday, California Highway Patrol said.

Authorities responded to a report of a seriously injured woman lying in the 6600 block of Prentiss Drive around 12:45 a.m. Wednesday, the CHP’s South Sacramento office said in a news release. Upon arrival, officers identified a 68-year-old woman who appeared to have been struck by a vehicle that had since fled the scene.
Officers attempted lifesaving efforts on the woman, but they were unsuccessful, and she was pronounced deceased at the scene, a CHP officials wrote in the news release.

Authorities are searching for a white 4-door sedan — possibly a 2013-2016 Nissan Altima — with damage to the front as the suspect vehicle in the case.
Officials urged anyone with information related to the crash to call the CHP’s South Sacramento office at 916-897-5600.
