Colorado’s 24-year-old rookie expects to make San Diego his home this offseason.
Maybe Pacific Beach. Maybe a North County coastal spot.
Why not?
He made himself at home at San Diego State before becoming a second-round pick of the Rockies three years ago.
“It’s been awesome,” the center fielder said of his first trip to Petco Park as a major leaguer. ” … Last offseason, I was back home (in Turlock), but I always come down to visit all my college roommates and stuff. I’ve got a lot of buddies who still live here, and a lot of them were at the game (Tuesday) night, along with some family.
“It’s been a good time.”
So has his first call-up to the majors.
Carrigg is hitting .296/.373/.519 with five homers, 26 RBIs and three stolen bases in 41 games since the Rockies called him up for his big-league debut in June. That includes going 3-for-4 with a run scored on Tuesday after being crushed for ticket requests for his first game back at a park he frequented while playing for the Aztecs. He went 0-for-2 with a walk in Wednesday’s matinee.
“We came to our fair share of games,” Carrigg said. “If we had an off day or an early practice or something, we’d definitely take the trolley over and catch some games.”
He added: “It’s different being on the field rather than in the stands. It’s a different feeling, for sure.”
Carrigg hit .333/.399/.477 with seven homers, 90 RBIs and 39 steals in three seasons (2021-23) with the Aztecs. He played every position outside of right field – yes, even catcher – before the Rockies drafted him.

He went on to post an .851 OPS in the low minors in his first full year as a pro in 2024, reached Double-A in 2025 (.711 OPS), played for Israel this spring in the World Baseball Classic and was hitting .338/.414/.529 with six homers in 57 games to start the year at Triple-A Albuquerque.
The June call-up allowed him nearly a month to establish himself in the Rockies’ upstart lineup before his first big-league stops in California earlier this month, first at Dodger Stadium and then at Oracle Park.
Carrigg said the ticket request in San Francisco trumped what he had to weather the last two days in San Diego.
“San Francisco was – there was too much going on there,” Carrigg said with a laugh. “I wasn’t a huge fan of it. There were a lot of people, random people, coming out of the woodwork. I don’t even know who they were.”
Perhaps it’s another reason to make San Diego his next home away from home after making himself at home so far in the majors.
“It’s definitely been a good transition for me,” Carrigg said. “Obviously, it’s a hard game, but I think Double-A and Triple-A prepared me pretty well for it. Having two big league spring trainings under my belt definitely helped. The guys have been great. Any advice you need, they’re just good to talk to. They’re easygoing about everything, and it makes for an easy transition.”
