Motorists headed north through Sacramento this weekend should avoid Interstate 5 or risk “major daytime and nighttime delays,” according to the California Department of Transportation.

Crews will remove and replace concrete slabs at the Pocket Road undercrossing between 6 p.m. Friday and 5 a.m. Monday, according to Caltrans District 3.
During construction, the four northbound lanes on I-5 at the Pocket Road undercrossing will be reduced to two lanes from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. and to one lane overnight.
The northbound I-5 on-ramp from eastbound Pocket Road, near the Pocket and Meadowview neighborhoods, will be closed. The on-ramp for motorists traveling westbound on Pocket Road will remain open.

The work zone will have a 55 mph speed limit.
Motorists should expect delays and allow additional travel time, according to Caltrans District 3.
During the 59-hour construction window, Caltrans is urging northbound drivers to avoid the interstate and use Highway 99. Local drivers heading east are encouraged to use Florin Road, about 1.5 miles north of Pocket Road at I-5.
