Mathnasium is now serving Sacramento students at its learning center at 2569 Fair Oaks Blvd. Operating inside Loehmann’s Plaza Shopping Center, the business provides hands-on math assistance and learning for students in grades K-12.
The tutoring center’s lessons are all individualized, said Bruce Tanner, the center’s spokesperson. When a student signs up for Mathnasium, they take a math assessment to gauge what grade-level math they understand. The center teaches math lessons for elementary schoolers to precalculus, according to its website.
After receiving assessment results, a teacher customizes a curriculum built for a student’s needs, Tanner explained.
“That’s the real benefit; it’s unique to the student,” Tanner said. “They are getting work on what they need help with the most, and not just going to a classroom where everybody’s learning fractions.”
All Mathnasium lessons are done in the center and homework is not assigned. This is to prevent “frustration and overload” for a student trying to understand a curriculum, its website reads. In each session, tutors also assist students with their homework assigned by their primary school.
“We go to where the student needs the help, and we bring them up to where they need to be,” Tanner said.

Fees are charged by the hour, depending on type. Private one-on-one sessions span from $40 to $100 per hour; small group and learning center sessions are $19 to $50, and online only sessions are $15 to $60, according to Mathnasium’s website.
Mathnasium also partners its curriculum with Vision in Education, an independent study program in Northern California.
There are 13 Mathnasiums across the Sacramento area, including the new Arden Arcade location. In total, there are 20 teachers who travel across the locations, Tanner said. The tutoring centers are located in the following areas.
