An overturned tanker truck spilled fuel Wednesday on the westbound Highway 50 portion of the W-X Freeway in Sacramento, prompting a hazardous materials response and closing several lanes and ramps, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The crash was reported about 11:20 a.m. near the 10th Street off-ramp and involved the tanker and two other vehicles, CHP logs showed. The tanker overturned and began leaking fuel onto the freeway.
The driver was injured and taken to UC Davis Medical Center, according to CHP.
Sacramento Fire Department crews declared a hazardous materials incident and requested that the three right lanes of westbound the freeway, signed Highway 50, be closed.

By about 12:40 p.m., authorities were shutting down the connector from the southbound Capital City Freeway connector at Highway 99 onto the W-X. The 16th Street off-ramp was also closed.
CHP issued a SigAlert and advised motorists traveling from the Roseville area to avoid Highway 50 and consider Interstates 80 and 5 as alternate routes.

Authorities had not provided an estimated time for the lanes to reopen.
